Ukraine and the European Union are united in combating the coronavirus pandemic and its consequences. This was mentioned during the meeting of Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal with the Ambassador of the European Union to Ukraine Matti Maasikas.
“We appreciate the readiness of the EU to assist Ukraine in overcoming the consequences of COVID-19, despite the extremely difficult epidemic situation in the EU member states,” – Prime Minister noted.
According to Denys Shmyhal, the support package of 80 million euros will help Ukraine’s health care system and economy (in particular, small and medium-sized enterprises, which were most affected by the coronavirus pandemic).
“I am grateful to the EU Ambassador in Ukraine for his strong support. Ukraine is willing to support the European Union as well. This issue has already been agreed with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. Ukraine is one of the world’s largest producers of medical alcohol. Now our production facilities are operating at full capacity, and as soon as the national market is supplied, we are ready to provide other countries with this resource,” noted the Prime Minister.
The Ambassador of the European Union in Ukraine, for his part, pointed out that an efficient and timely approach was taken by the Government to avoid the spread of the pandemic.
Participants of the meeting mentioned that Ukraine and the EU should combine the coordination of humanitarian and international technical assistance.
“I assured our European partners that the Ukrainian government is to proceed with reforms. I am grateful to the European Union for political support”, – said Denys Shmyhal.
