President signed the law on the official language: Language is a platform on which the nation and state are built

Press-office: President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko is convinced that the language is the base, the foundation on which the nations and states are built, and Ukraine is no exception. The Head of State signed the law “On ensuring the functioning of the Ukrainian language as an official one”.

“I emphasize that during the signing of the Law “On ensuring the functioning of the Ukrainian language as an official one”, one of the most important acts for the formation of Ukrainian statehood is being made. The language is definitely a platform, a foundation on which the nation and state are built,” the Head of State said.

“I am signing a carefully balanced law on language. It has been verified so that no political force has a reason to initiate its revision. There is no reason,” the Head of State stressed.

The President emphasized that the law enjoyed a high level of support not only in the Verkhovna Rada, but also in Ukrainian society. “Everyone was worried that the law would be a dividing one, no – it turned out that the law has united the nation. Both the authorities and the opposition – we all resolutely made it possible,” Petro Poroshenko said.

“I am hopeful that the new government will also implement its norms after a careful analysis of this law, as it is a key statehood position of the Ukrainian state’s existence,” he said.
