Germany after xenophobic shooting in Hanau

Thousands of people have gathered in cities across Germany to honor the victims of the racially motivated shooting. Nine people with a migration background in Hanau were killed because of their migration background. The police found a suspected criminal dead in Kesselstadt and his mother was also shot. A man who was identified as Tobias Ratien left several inconsistent texts and videos promoting racist views and a manifesto full of conspiracy theories.

“The background to these terrible murders will be investigated down to the last detail,” German Chancellor Angela Merkel promised. “But there is a lot of evidence that suggests the perpetrator acted out of far-right extremist and racist motives, out of hatred for people with a different background, a different religion, and different looks.”
She along with high-ranking officials from the Social Democrats accused the AdN of providing ideological reinforcement to people like the Hanau shooter.
