The German government will provide up to 750 million euros for the research and development of a vaccine against the new type of coronavirus.
In order to support the production and development of a vaccine against Covid-19, the German government has approved additional funding. Up to 750 million euros are available for this purpose. This will enable upcoming vaccine studies with larger numbers of volunteers. Investments will also be directed towards the expansion of production capacities.
Karliczek announced that approximately 500 million euros will be used to expand research and production capacities for vaccine testing in Germany. Another 250 million euros are planned for the expansion of production facilities for vaccines in Germany. “As soon as a vaccine is found and approved, production must be able to start quickly and on a large scale, both in Germany and worldwide,” said Karliczek.
