“I sincerely congratulate the Ukrainian devotees, especially the group of soldiers who took part in the annual National Military Pilgrimage to Lourdes. I constantly pray to God that he would fill the hearts of Ukrainians with love and harmony and give his peace to the whole country. May God bless you all! “Pope Francis said at the end of the general audience on Wednesday, May 22, 2019, welcoming the Ukrainian military delegation.

Since 1996, the Ukrainian delegation has been participating in the International Military Pilgrimage in Lourdes, France. It has already become a good tradition that after its completion Ukrainian military pilgrims arrive in the Vatican.

According to the Department of Information of the UGCC, the current delegation included soldiers of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, injured soldiers, mothers who lost their sons in the war, students of the National Academy of Army.
