Over the next few years, Deutsche Bahn will advise and support the Ukrainian state railway JSC Ukrsalisnyzja (UZ) on business and technical matters. A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed yesterday in the Ukrainian capital Kyiv by Prime Minister Oleksiy Honcharuk, Infrastructure Minister Vladyslav Kryklii and DB Infrastructure Director Ronald Pofalla.
According to the agreement on the strategic partnership, over the next few years, the Ukrainian railway company is scheduled to implement a gradual transformation – from the analysis and reorganization of the various business areas to the optimization of operations and management. With 27,000 kilometers of track and around 250,000 employees, Ukrainian Railways is one of the most important railways in Eastern Europe. Deutsche Bahn is supported by its subsidiary DB Engineering & Consulting (DB E&C). The engineering and consulting company for infrastructure, mobility and transport projects is one of the leading companies internationally.
“I am very pleased that our cooperation with Deutsche Bahn is starting to take concrete form. During the negotiations, we agreed on a format for our joint work according to which we will keep complete control over Ukrsalisnyzja. At the same time, we can involve German experts to set completely new, namely European, standards for the enterprise in the field of railway operations. I am relying on Germany’s zero tolerance policy towards corruption to help us change the current situation at Ukrsalisnyzja. Ultimately, we expect an impressive result, not only in terms of the financial results of the Ukrsalisnyzja, but also in terms of the comfort of every customer of Ukrsalisnyzja,” said Ukrainian Prime Minister Oleksij Hontscharuk.
Ronald Pofalla, Member of the DB Management Board, said: “This will be a big and exciting task, which our engineers and managers will solve. Our DB E&C brings experience from our German network, with our colleagues planning and managing countless billion-euro projects. For more than 50 years, DB E&C has stood for successful consulting and big projects in the entire railway sector”.
Niko Warbanoff, CEO of DB E&C: ” The expertise “Made by Deutsche Bahn” is highly valued. We are pleased to make our contribution to this project for Ukraine”.
